JOB TITLE: Communications Assistant/Writer

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

DIVISION/DEPT: Communications

SUPERVISED BY: Director of Communications

The position requires a B.A. degree in journalism or English, and experience in advertising, news writing, editing, graphic design and printing is a plus. Strong English skills are needed as well as proficiency in word processing.

 

JOB TITLE: Student Recruitment Assistant

CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, 10 hours per week

DIVISION/DEPT: Student Development

SUPERVISED BY: VP of Student Development


PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Assist Director of Student Recruitment and recruitment program for Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Midwestern Baptist College, SBC. Assistant will be responsible for helping as need with recruiting trips, campus visits, Preview Day, promotional materials, prospective student follow-up, and statistical data. Applicants should be active in a Southern Baptist congregation and affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow-up with prospective students by making phone calls and sending e-mails.
  • Burn CDs and assemble recruiting materials.
  • Schedule and conduct campus tours.
  • Schedule flights, hotels, and rental cars for recruiting trips.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Good organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to exercise discernment in time management and prioritizing
  • Ability to build a bridge to people of diverse personalities and backgrounds

JOB TITLE: Grounds Maintenance

CLASSIFICATION: Part-time

DIVISION/DEPT: Campus Operations

SUPERVISED BY: Director of Campus Operations

General Description: The campus grounds maintenance employees are responsible for the general appearance and upkeep of the grounds and shop at the Main Campus and North Campus. This includes, flower beds, grassy area, trees, and parking areas. General duties of all grounds employees will be the same, specific duties will vary according to skill.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Flower beds
- In early spring, clean flower beds and plant perennial beds.
- Remove weeds from all beds as needed throughout spring, summer and fall.
-Water and fertilize beds as needed.

2.Grassy areas
- Keep all grassy areas mowed to appropriate height. This includes fields, around all buildings, gazebo area, ball field, and along N. Oak, Vivion Rd, and Troost Ave.
- Trim and/or edge around buildings, trees, sidewalks, streets, parking areas, flower beds, etc.
- Apply weed killer and/or fertilizer as requested by supervisor.

3.Trees and shrubs – all work should be done as directed by supervisor
- Remove dead and/or damaged trees or tree branches
- Trim or remove and replace shrubs

4.Parking areas, streets, and sidewalks
- Patch damaged areas of surface material as directed by supervisor
- Remove snow and/or ice as needed

5.Shop and garages
- Return all equipment, tools and campus vehicles to their designated storage area at the end of your shift
- Clean dirt and/or debris from all equipment and tools after each use and before storage
- Maintain order of all toolboxes, benches and tool storage areas
- Keep dirt, sawdust, and other debris swept up and cleaned from benches and floors in shop and garages

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be physically capable of working outdoors in extreme weather conditions. The individual must be dependable, self motivated, and able to work without direct supervision.

Director of Communications

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and College

 

JOB TITLE             : Director of Communications

SUPERVISOR      : Vice President of Administration

 

 

I.         PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 

Director of Communications is responsible for communication of seminary to various media, seminary community, and Southern Baptists.

 

 

II.        ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Communication within seminary

a. Publish the Midwestern magazine for alumni, faculty, students, seminary friends, and Southern Baptists in Midwest region.

b. Publish campus directory to provide resource listing all students at Kansas City campus and extensions, staff, and faculty.

                c. Publish academic catalog biannually for current and prospective students.

d. Respond to printing needs of various departments, providing graphic support for advertisements, brochures, flyers, and photographs.

e. Assist president's office in providing trustees with copies of media coverage of the seminary.

                f. Provide news coverage of trustee meetings and other related events or actions.

 

2. Communication to secular community

a. Inform community of seminary events of interest to wide audience through news releases and advertisements as needed.

b. Maintain relationships with area media, serving as a liaison for the seminary, routing media inquiries to the seminary president or assigned spokesman.

 

3. Communication to Baptist community

a. Maintain strong relationship with Baptist Press to relate mission of the seminary through news releases and photographs.

b. Maintain strong relationship with regional state Baptist papers, particularly the Pathway, informing them of trustee meetings and other events, providing news releases, and photographs, and facilitating interviews of faculty, students, and administration.

                c. Develop promotional materials to assist with enlistment of new students.

d. Supervise/proof the content of the seminary website and its link with Southern Baptist entities.

e. Review Southern Baptist periodicals for articles of interest to faculty as well as coverage of seminary.

 

4. Supervise departmental employees and budget

                a. Assign duties to writer and secretary that support objectives of the department.

                b. Control assigned budget resources within approved limits.

 

 

III.      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provide leadership and supervision to employees necessary to fulfill the stated responsibilities of the Director of Communications.

 

IV.     KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

 

College degree in journalism or communications required. Individual should have experience in advertising, newswriting, editing, graphic design, and printing. Strong English skills needed as well as proficiency in word processing, desktop publishing software such as Quark, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator, as well as the ability to navigate the internet. Good organizational and management skills with ability to plan and follow a budget.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Guest Housing Custodian

            Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and College

 

JOB TITLE:  Guest Housing Custodian

SUPERVISOR:  Campus Operations Office Manager

 

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Guest Housing Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hospitable atmosphere of the guest housing units.  This includes cleaning the units, laundering linens, and  purchasing and stocking with snacks and supplies as needed. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Clean Guest Units in Music Annex, apartments, and houses

  1. Empty trash containers.
  2. Clean kitchenettes, including walls, floors, counters, sinks, stoves, microwaves and refrigerators as needed.
  3. Clean bathrooms, including sinks, mirrors, walls, stools, bathtubs and floors, and replenish guest soaps, toilet paper and clean towels and washcloths.
  4. Clean bedrooms, including changing bed linens.
  5. Vacuum carpets.
  6. Dust furniture.
  7. All units are to be cleaned and made ready for the next guest the day they are vacated.

 

2.      OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Check mailbox in Student Housing Office daily for information on new guests or work orders.
  2. Check and update guest records in guest housing custodial office daily.
  3. Maintain organization of linens and other supplies in guest housing custodial office.

 

3.      ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Launder all towels and linens as they are used.  Return clean items to their proper place in the custodial office.
  2. Defrost freezers in guest units as needed.
  3. Vacuum under furniture, dust baseboards, tops of refrigerators, etc. as needed.
  4. Vacuum hallways in guest areas as needed.
  5. Assist with other custodial tasks as requested by the Director of Campus Operations.

 

 

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be physically capable of performing general cleaning duties as well as possess organizational skills.  The qualified individual should be dependable, self motivated, and trustworthy in all areas of personal and professional development.

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Custodial or general cleaning experience is preferred.

 

 

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The individual must be able to read and interpret job procedures  and seminary policies.  Other abilities essential to the job are:  basic record keeping, communicating with colleagues and other seminary-related personnel, and maintaining confidential information.

 

 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

The individual must be able to organize a work space and supplies, plan day to day and month to month work assignments, and meet deadlines.

 

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The individual’s work environment encompasses all guest quarters in the Music Annex, apartment buildings and houses as well as the custodial area in the Campus Operations Department.  Physical demands range from light office work to occasional heavy lifting, and navigation of stairways.  Occasional hours are required on weekends to prepare for Monday guests. The dress code calls for casual, informal attire.

 

 

 

ASSIGNMENTS

The individual must be able to recognize tasks that need to be completed and to accomplish completion of those tasks without direct supervision.  Occasionally, the individual will be asked to assist with other assignments as specified by the Director of Campus Operations in order to help maintain efficient flow and function of campus operations.
