POSITION TITLE: DISCIPLESHIP PASTOR

Ministry Function:
Responsible for overall direction and leadership in implementing the Senior Pastor’s vision regarding the fulfillment of the Great Commission as it relates to the areas of discipleship (education) and evangelism across all ministries of Arran Lake Baptist Church (ALBC).

Ministry Purpose:
The Discipleship Pastor will oversee all disciple-making ministries (kids, students, and adults) to ensure that members of ALBC are equipped to effectively teach and minister to one another with the Word of God within our small groups, D-Groups, Sunday School, and family ministries.

Primary Ministry Functions:

  • Work with the Senior Pastor in the development and implementation of an assimilation strategy for guests to become fully engaged and connected members of ALBC.
    Provide leadership and oversight to all disciple-making ministries of ALBC, including, but not limited to, adult Sunday School, small groups, D-Groups, conferences, retreats, etc.
  • Oversee family disciple-making ministries (students and kids), ensuring all family ministries align with the overall disciple-making vision of ALBC.
  • Serve as a resource to the leaders of all disciple-making ministries for materials, ideas, and coordination.
  • Support the function of existing classes/groups and foster the development and creation of new classes and groups as needed to minister to ALBC, our community, and beyond.
  • Guide in the selection, enlistment, training, and leading of Sunday School leaders and teachers.
  • Mentor and develop current and future leaders and teachers who are equipped to teach others to do the same.
  • Equip Sunday School classes/small groups in finding areas of ministry in the church and evangelism in the community where their class/group can serve.
  • Determine and recommend suitable materials, organizational structure, space usage, and equipment needs for the discipleship ministry.
  • Coordinate training for all leaders and teachers in the various areas of the adult disciple-making ministries.
  • Be a resource for leader training in other ministry areas as requested by ministry leaders.
  • Maintain numerical statistics that will enable the pastoral staff to objectively analyze and evaluate the numerical growth or decline relating to the ministries of discipleship and evangelism.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, etc. at the discretion of the Senior Pastor as it relates to disciple-making and evangelism philosophies and methods.
    Keep Senior Pastor abreast of all disciple-making and evangelism opportunities.

Secondary Assist Functions:

  • Supply articles on a periodical basis for use in ALBC publications relating to your responsible areas of ministry.
  • Adhere to church-approved guidelines as outlined in ALBC Bylaws and Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Give full support to the church budget and avoid soliciting or expending funds not previously authorized.

Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Basic Personal Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a vital and growing personal walk with the Lord through committed Bible study, prayer and meditation.
  • Maintain proper priorities in your home and be a spiritual leader to your spouse and children, if married.
  • Develop personal evangelism opportunities within and outside the church.

Financially support the work of ministries of ALBC by faithfully giving at least 10% of your income.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • M.Div. Degree from college or seminary (or in pursuit of a degree from a theological institution of higher learning)
  • Ordained or willing to be ordained
  • Experience of three years or more in this field is strongly desired but not required

  • Excellent people and relational skills applicable to all generations
  • Ability to grasp the Senior pastor’s vision for the entire church and incorporate it into his own vision for discipleship and evangelism at ALBC.
  • Familiarity and experience with all basic Sunday school, small group, outreach, and evangelism philosophies and methods.
  • Must be willing to be flexible in working with other pastoral staff in fulfilling the Great Commission

Accountability:

  • This position reports directly to the Lead Pastor
