Midwestern Women’s Institute exists to equip women to serve their families, churches, and communities by providing them with ministry training, spiritual encouragement, and biblical fellowship. MWI offers ministry training in an intentionally social environment while connecting students with other women pursuing ministry training, missional engagement, godly households and gospel-centered fellowship.

MWI‘s residential certificate program offers classes on campus during the week with additional options for credit through chapel and conference classes.

Classes are open to all Kansas City-area women who seek ministry training, spiritual encouragement, and biblical fellowship.

MWI Certificate and IMB Requirements

Midwestern Women’s Institute (MWI) provides a course of study for any woman, regardless of marital or occupational status, who wants to
enable and enhance spiritual and practical skills necessary for effective service.
Two levels of study are available:

10 Courses

Certificate of Ministry Studies

Granted to the student who completes all 10 core (required) courses: Old Testament 1, Old Testament 2, New Testament 1, New Testament 2, Theology 1, Theology 2, Discipleship 1, Discipleship 2, Hermeneutics 1, and Evangelism & Missions.

15 Courses

Advanced Certificate of Ministry Studies

Granted to the student who completes all 10 core courses and 5 elective courses: Hermeneutics 2, For the Church conference course, Hospitality, Wives in Ministry, Baptist Heritage and Beliefs, Prayer, and Biblical Parenting.

* Completion of an MWI Certificate of Ministry Studies satisfies the requirements for a non-head of household/spouse with the International Missions Board (IMB).
** Courses with MWI are not equivalent to college-level courses and may not be used to substitute undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral degree

Seminary Wives Cohort

Your husband’s enrollment in seminary signals a call to ministry. As his wife, your role in his ministry journey is significant. The MBTS Seminary Wives Cohort, offered by Midwestern Seminary and Midwestern Women’s Institute, is designed for wives of doctoral, master’s, and accelerate students.

Objectives and Distinctives

Students completing the MWI program will be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of the Bible and personal discipleship, develop an appreciation for Baptist heritage, mission, and ministries, demonstrate a basic knowledge of the biblical foundation for marriage and the family, and develop an understanding of ministry opportunities in view of their personal talents and gifts.
Location: MWI Courses are offered on the MBTS campus in Kansas City and online.
Duration: Residential students attend classes in the evenings, with both residential and online students completing the requirements in two to three years.
Distinctive Resources: MWI students have access to community life that provides informal educational experiences, religious fellowship, and opportunity for reflection upon the meaning of faith in its relation to preparation for ministry.
